Overview

Welcome to the Progressive Jewish Community of East Anglia, which seeks to fulfil the needs of those Jews living within the region who wish to belong to a community which subscribes to the principles of Liberal Judaism. We are a friendly, welcoming community and value visits from non-members to our services and events.

Our rabbi, currently Rabbi Stephen Howard, usually visits us for one weekend a month, when he officiates at a service, as well as conducting a children’s cheder and leading a session of Engaging With Judaism, our adult education group. He also supports teaching for teenagers and those wishing to convert to Judaism.

Occasionally visiting Rabbis lead us in education and worship. We usually have a visiting Rabbi for the High Holy Days.

In between these service weekends we offer a variety of events, such as celebrating festivals, Shabbat lunches with an educational input and social evenings. We celebrate a communal second-night Seder for Passover. Members run a 'Keeping in Touch' group and and Adult Hebrew group studying Prayer Book Hebrew.

We also offer religious ceremonies for weddings, funerals, baby blessings, Bar/Bat Mitzvah and Kabbalat Torah. Members receive a monthly newsletter.

The PJCEA seeks to maintain good relations with the orthodox Norwich Hebrew Congregation, arranging joint activities from time to time.
