In these uncertain times, just how significant is Liberal Judaism in our everyday lives?

Chanukkah? Christmas? Chrismukkah? What do we celebrate, who do we celebrate with, how do we celebrate? The annual “December dilemma” is a real tradition for many of us!

And it is just one example of the challenges which confront us as we try to fit our Judaism together with our everyday world. Can it be done without compromising our beliefs? What will our families and congregations look like in the future? How do we pass on our traditions in ways relevant to coming generations?

This year, the workshop streams at the Biennial Weekend will explore the realities of living our lives as 21st Century Jews. Under ”Living in the Modern World” we’ll explore the new face of our families and ways of integrating our family members of different or no religion into our celebrations. We look at ways of celebrating our life-cycle events which take into account new family structures.

There will be a chance to discuss with others how we can give our children a positive Jewish identity in our often complicated families while still valuing all our family members. Another certainty we all face is the end of life, so the rituals and challenges around burials in mixed faith families will also be addressed.

But these are not the only modern realities we face. In our workshop stream “70 is the new 50” we’ll look at the consequences of the changing demographics of modern life. Succession is an issue for so many congregations and so the workshop “L’dor v’dor”, which looks at how we can pass leadership from one generation to the next, will have a resonance for many.

These are just a few examples of the stimulating and challenging workshops, covering topics that touch all of our lives, which will be at the heart of our weekend. Do come join us as we discuss, argue and innovate with our rabbis and members at the Liberal Judaism Biennial Weekend in April.

The early bird booking rate ends soon, so book now to avoid disappointment.
