Jewish-Arab Business Initiatives in Israel

  • The Center for Jewish-Arab Economic Development (CJAED)
    The Center for Jewish-Arab Economic Development (CJAED) is a non-profit organization, established in 1988 by a group of Jewish and Arab businesspeople. The guiding principle of the Center and its activities is that Jewish-Arab economic cooperation in Israel is essential for peace, prosperity and economic stability in Israel and the region at large. CJAED acts on the premise that Israel's primary resource is its people; that Israel's strength lies in its pluralism and democracy, and that the Arab community must be integrated into the Israeli mainstream economy and society.

Israeli Government:

  • Israel Ministry for Foreign Affairs
    The Foreign Ministry formulates, implements and presents the foreign policy of the Government of Israel. It represents the state vis-a-vis foreign governments and international organizations, explains its positions and problems throughout the world, endeavors to promote its economic, cultural, and scientific relations, and fosters cooperation with developing countries. Israel currently (2007) maintains diplomatic relations with 162 countries. The Ministry promotes relations with Diaspora communities and safeguards the rights of Israeli citizens abroad.

Education Projects in Palestine:

  • Hope Flowers School
    The Hope Flowers School in Bethlehem was founded to develop attitudes and skills that foster peaceful resolutions to conflict. The school seeks to cultivate positive values within Palestinian society and build relationships between Palestinian children and other cultures as a basis for creating understanding and peaceful relations among the peoples of the world.
  • Windows for Peace
    "Windows" is a joint organization of Jews and Palestinians from both sides of the Green Line. It was established in 1991 with the aim of promoting – through educational and cultural programs, media and art – knowledge, understanding and conciliation between the two peoples.

Jewish-Arab Education Projects in Israel:

  • Ein Bustan
    Ein Bustan is the first Jewish/Arab Waldorf Kindergarten in Israel, and is situated in the small Arab village of Hilf, near Kiryat Tivon. The kindergarten, which is based on the principles of the Waldorf educational method, accepts both Arab and Jewish cultures equally. The children of Ein Bustan come from Kiryat Tivon and the surrounding Bedouin villages of Hilf and Bosmat Tab’un.
  • Hand in Hand
    In 1997, Hand in Hand Center for Jewish-Arab Education is Israel was founded to build peace between Jews and Arabs in Israel through development of bilingual and multi-cultural schools

Human Rights Organizations in Israel:

  • The Association of Civil Rights in Israel
    The Association for Civil Rights in Israel (ACRI) was founded in 1972 as a non-political and independent body, with the goal of protecting human and civil rights in Israel and in the territories under Israeli control.
  • Bimkom – Planners for Planning Rights
    Bimkom was established in May 1999 by planners and architects with the goal of strengthening the connection between human rights and spatial planning in Israel.
  • B'Tselem – The Israeli Information Center for Human Rights in the Occupied Territories
    B'Tselem - The Israeli Center for Human Rights in the Occupied Territories was established in 1989 by a group of prominent academics, attorneys, journalists, and Knesset members. It endeavors to document and educate the Israeli public and policymakers about human rights violations in the Occupied Territories, combat the phenomenon of denial prevalent among the Israeli public, and help create a human rights culture in Israel.
  • Gisha: Center for the Legal Protection of Freedom of Movement
    Gisha is an Israeli not-for-profit organization, founded in 2005, whose goal is to protect the freedom of movement of Palestinians, especially Gaza residents. Gisha promotes rights guaranteed by international and Israeli law. Gisha is registered in Israel as an independent, non-partisan, not-for-profit organization. Gisha is generously supported by donations from Israel and abroad.
  • HaMoked – The Center for the Defense of the Individual
    HaMoked: Center for the Defense of the Individual was established in 1988 to assist Palestinians whose rights are violated by the Israeli authorities or as a result of Israeli policy. Hamoked contacts relevant authorities to deal with complaints received, and if necessary petitions the courts. HaMoked also operates an Emergency Human Rights Hotline in order to attempt to offer real time solutions by working vis-à-vis relevant authorities in the field.
  • Physicians For Human Rights
    Physicians For Human Rights-Israel was founded in 1988 with the goal of struggling for human rights, in particular the right to health, in Israel and the Occupied Territories. Human dignity, wellness of mind and body and the right to health are at the core of the world view of the organization and direct and instruct our activities and efforts on both the individual and general level. Our activities integrate advocacy and action toward changing harmful policies and direct action providing healthcare.
  • The Palestinian Human Rights Monitoring Group (PHRMG)
    The Palestinian Human Rights Monitoring Group (PHRMG) was founded in December 1996 in response to the deteriorating state of democracy and human rights under the newly established Palestinian Authority. The group documents human rights violations committed against Palestinians in the West Bank, Gaza Strip and East Jerusalem, regardless of who is responsible.
  • The Public Committee Against Torture in Israel
    In September 1999, in response to PCATI's petition, nine justices of the High Court ruled to absolutely prohibit the use of torture during interrogation. The Public Committee Against Torture in Israel, an independent human rights organization founded in 1990, monitors the implementation of this ruling in detention centers and continues the struggle against the use of torture in interrogation in Israel and the Palestinian Authority through legal means, support of relevant legislation and through an information campaign aimed at raising public awareness of the subject.
  • Adalah
    Established in November 1996, Adalah ("Justice" in Arabic) serves Arab citizens of Israel. Adalah works to protect human rights in general and the rights of the Arab minority in particular. Adalah's main goals are to achieve equal individual and collective rights for the Arab minority in Israel in different fields including land rights; civil and political rights; cultural, social, and economic rights; religious rights; women's rights; and prisoners' rights.
  • Bizchut
    Bizchut, The Israel Human Rights Center for People with Disabilities is a non-profit organization committed to advancing the rights of people with physical, developmental and emotional disabilities and enabling their full integration into mainstream society and participation in all areas of life.
  • The Hotline for Migrant Workers
    The Hotline for Migrant Workers is a nonprofit, non-governmental organization (NGO), dedicated to promoting the basic civil and human rights of migrant workers and victims of human trafficking in Israel. The Hotline works using a four focus approach to advance its goals: direct intervention, legal action, policy making, and raising public awareness.
  • HRA - The Arab Association for Human Rights
    The Arab Association for Human Rights (HRA) was established in 1988 and registered as a non-profit organisation in Israel in 1990.
  • Kav La'Oved
    Kav La'Oved is a non-profit organization dedicated to protecting the rights of the most disadvantaged workers in Israel, primarily: migrant workers, Palestinians from the occupation territories, personnel company employees, and new immigrants.
  • Machsom Watch
    Machsom Watch is a women's group established in 2001 to monitor the behavior of Israeli security forces personnel in the checkpoints scattered around the West bank. The group reports its finding to decision makers and general public.
  • Mossawa
    Mossawa, The Advocacy Center for Arab Citizens in Israel, was established in October of 1997 as a Non Governmental Organization. Mossawa works to promote equality for Arab\Palestinians within the borders of Israel. Mossawa utilizes advocacy methods to change the social and political status of Arab/Palestinians in Israel in an attempt to gain minority recognition and rights, without sacrificing their national and cultural rights as Palestinians.
  • Shomrei Mishpat – Rabbis for Human Rights
    Shomrei Mishpat – Rabbis for Human Rights in comprised of rabbis of all streams of Judaism and is concerned specifically with giving voice to the Jewish tradition of human rights. The group focuses on human rights in the Occupied Territories, Israeli public health care system, migrant workers, among other issues.
  • Sikkuy
    Sikkuy ("a chance or opportunity" in Hebrew) Founded in 1991 as a Jewish-Arab advocacy organization. Sikkuy is a non-partisan, non-profit, NGO in Israel that develops and implements projects to advance civic equality between Arab and Jewish citizens of Israel in government budgets, resource allocation, hiring policy, land usage etc.
  • Yesh Din
    Established in March 2005, Yesh Din is made up of volunteers who have organized to oppose the continuing violation of Palestinian human rights in the Occupied Palestinian Territory.

Peace Groups in Israel:

  • Bat Shalom
    Bat Shalom is an Israeli national feminist grassroots organization of Jewish and Palestinian Israeli women working together for a genuine peace grounded in a just resolution of the Israel-Palestine conflict, respect for human rights, and an equal voice for Jewish and Arab women within Israeli society.
  • Shovrim Shtika – Breaking the Silence
    Israelis who have served in the occupied territories tell of there experiences.
  • Yesh Gvul
    Yesh Gvul ("There is a limit!") is an Israeli peace group campaigning against the occupation by backing soldiers who refuse duties of a repressive or aggressive nature.
  • Zochrot ("Remembering")
    Zochrot ["Remembering"] is a group of Israeli citizens working to raise awareness of the Nakba, the Palestinian catastrophe of 1948.

International Peace Groups:

  • British Friends of Peace Now
    Peace Now - UK supports the right of the people of Israel to live in peace and security. It works in the UK to promote the goals of Shalom Ahshav - Peace Now, the grass roots Israeli peace movement, which campaigns for a comprehensive peace between Israel and its Arab neighbours and a solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict based on mutual recognition, self-determination and peaceful co-existence.
  • Jewish Voice for Peace
    JVP is the voice of the overwhelming majority of American Jews who, as polls consistently show, support a peaceful resolution of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and an end to Israel’s Occupation of Palestinian land.
  • Jews for Justice for Palestinians
    A network of Jews in Britain, formed in February 2002, opposed to Israeli policies that undermine the livelihoods, human, civil and political rights of the Palestinian people.
  • The Rebuilding Alliance
    A nonprofit organization, rebuilds homes and communities in regions of war and occupation. We advocate for government policies towards these regions based on human rights and international law.

  • Stand With US International
    StandWithUs is an apolitical advocacy organisation that promotes education and understanding which will bring a secure future for Israel and her neighbours.
  • MEMRI - The Middle East Media Research Institute
    The Middle East Media Research Institute (MEMRI) explores the Middle East through the region's media. MEMRI bridges the language gap which exists between the West and the Middle East, providing timely translations of Arabic, Persian, and Turkish media, as well as original analysis of political, ideological, intellectual, social, cultural, and religious trends in the Middle East. Founded in February 1998 to inform the debate over US policy in the Middle East, MEMRI is an independent, nonpartisan, nonprofit, 501 (c)3 organization. MEMRI's headquarters is located in Washington.
  • The Israel Project
    The Israel Project (TIP) is an international non-profit organization devoted to educating the press and the public about Israel while promoting security, freedom and peace. The Israel Project provides journalists, leaders and opinion-makers accurate information about Israel. The Israel Project is not related to any government or government agency.
  • Bitterlemons
    Presents Israeli and Palestinian viewpoints on prominent issues of concern. It focuses on the Palestinian-Israeli conflict and peace process. It is produced, edited and partially written by Ghassan Khatib, a Palestinian, and Yossi Alpher, an Israeli. Its goal is to contribute to mutual understanding through the open exchange of ideas.
