NEWSLETTER JULY 2003 - EDITORIAL

The ULPS is to get a makeover, including a name change. From September it is to be known as "Liberal Judaism". This is not a formal renaming — that would require a change to its constitution and approval of the Charity Commission. We are to think of it rather as ULPS "trading as" Liberal Judaism

A survey carried out in 2000 found that the ULPS had "no clear profile", "no coherence" and was "... not on the media radar". There was felt to be a need to minimize confusion, to stop using multiple identities eg the ULPS, Union of Liberal & Progressive Synagogues, Liberal Judaism, Progressive Judaism. It was decided that we should call ourselves by one name that differentiates us from all other UK Jewish organizations. The decision was endorsed by the ULPS Council at its meeting on 10 June and will take effect from 1 September 2003

The ULPS is to get a redesigned logo, promotional material, stationery, pamphlets etc. ULPS News is to be relaunched as LJNews and the website updated to reflect the new image. Is this exciting or what?
