NEWSLETTER MARCH 2006 - COUNCIL

  • The PJCEA Council met on Thursday, March 2nd at the home of Byron Simmonds. Sarah Boosey was welcomed as an observer

Services:

  • The service and havurah lunch at Jessopp Road was deemed to be a great success, prompting investigation into the possibility of our wider use of the building
  • Next service: Saturday, March 25th; Alan Lester visiting
  • Special service being planned for November. Stella, Michele and Byron dealing

Education:

  • Andy and Becca Fetterman putting on an "Israel Extravaganza" at The Synagogue on March 19th. Our parents and children welcome
  • Next adult ed: Friday, March 24th at Oliver's (Preparing for Pesach); Alan Lester visiting

Membership:

  • The resignation of a Full Member had been received; an application to become a Friend had been approved
  • A donation had been gratefully received

Social/Events:

  • PJC well represented at the recent Oxford Shabbaton
  • Megillah reading, March 13th at The Synagogue
  • Book Club, March 14th at Jonathan Dangour’s
  • Communal Seder, April 13th at Loddon Middle School: Philip and Jenny to lead this, in Rachel’s absence. Miriam organizing, with Stella’s assistance
  • Genizah Trip, April 27th
  • Mitzvah Day on Saturday, April 29th at Winterton, to embrace cheder, singing and EWJ. Rachel on board
  • NHC had approached PJC, asking if we would like to be represented on NISS (Norwich Israel and Social Society). Discussions in hand

Newsletter/PR:

  • "Same-sex Commitment Services": an agreed statement to be posted to the website; ditto "Burial of non-Jews in Jewish Cemeteries"
  • We now have a tri-fold brochure
  • Byron and Beverly had represented the PJC at the recent Board of Deputies Media Awards Ceremony
  • A "Spotlight on the PJCEA" article is to appear in the March/April issue LJ Today; Byron had also written a "Liberally Speaking" article for LJ Today, May/June issue

AOB:

  • Shelagh Philips kindly agreed to chair the AGM
