The Shabbat service to be held on Friday, April 28th is to be taken by Rabbi Rachel Benjamin. After the services there will be a kiddush with coffee, tea and cakes to follow
Rachel Benjamin writes: The Torah portion for the Shabbat of April 28th-29th is the double portion of Tazria-Metzora, Leviticus 12:1-15:33. It makes for rather unedifying reading, being about skin eruptions, ‘eruptive affections’ of fabrics, ‘eruptive plagues’ of houses, leprosy, etc. The Haftarah for Tazria is II Kings 4:42-5:19, and for Metzora is II Kings 7:3-20
On a happier note, it will be Rosh Chodesh Iyyar (the first day of the Hebrew month of Iyyar) on that Shabbat, and it is also Shabbat Atzma’ut, the Sabbath before Yom Ha'atzma'ut, Israel Independence Day, which will take place on the following Wednesday
