NEWSLETTER DECEMBER 2006 - COUNCIL

Meeting:

  • The PJCEA Council met on Tuesday, December 5th at the home of Michele Paton

Services:

  • Civic service deemed to be a great success, well organized, good PR and a great team effort
  • A rabbinic student for the January service in hand
  • Kiddush Rota review in hand
  • Purchase of tanakhs in hand; ditto copies of new LJY-Netzer Youth Siddur
  • To further develop the idea of having mid-month Friday evening services in members' homes
  • Next service: Friday, December 29th at the Old Meeting House

Education:

  • Byron hoped to meet with Coral Drane of NHC after the holidays, to see how we might move forward the idea of pooling cheder resources
  • Need to resolve a clash between Rachel's cheder session (for the younger kids) and the Hebrew session
  • PJC and NHC kids to put on a Hanukkah play (at The Synagogue, Earlham Road on Sunday, December 17th
  • Next Engaging with Judaism session: Saturday, December 30th in the OMH Peill Room.  Topic: Hanukkah

Membership:

  • Byron and Sarah to meet to see how her Linking the Community proposals might be moved forward
  • A number of new enquiries had been received and information packs sent out
  • Sarah had prepared a paper, "Linking the Community", to be published in the newsletter
  • Membership to be encouraged to sign up to the telephone tree, intended for Members and Friends of PJC only
  • One info pack sent out

Treasurer:

  • Civic Service budget and expenditure details submitted
  • Letters to be sent out for subsription renewals (due January)
  • New Roots were unable accept donations in kind
  • Draft 2007 budget submitted

Social/Events:

  • To further develop the idea of having mid-month Saturday chavurah lunches
  • ECAPS study weekend at St Gabriel's was excellent. It was planned to hold it there again next year
  • Hanukkah Party December 17th at The Synagogue, Earlham Road
  • Next Jewish Book Club: Tuesday, January 9th at the Leveton's (The Yellow Wind by David Grossman)
  • NISS & NJLS Buffet Supper at The Synagogue, Earlham Road. Speaker: Elkan Levy
  • Joan Goodman lecture

NEWSLETTER/PR:

  • Excellent PR for the Civic Service
  • Michele agreed to take on PR. Any copy intended to go out under the PJC banner, to be routed through her
  • Copy date Tuesday, December 7th

AOB:

  • Burial Committee met on Monday, November 20th. Jenny Lawrence agreed to chair the committed
  • The Ideas Day SWOT Analysis and Action Plan reviewed. Agreed to hold a second "Day", hopefully at the end of March
  • Meeting of the Executive to be aranged, to discuss, among other things, LJ service delivery
