NEWSLETTER DECEMBER 2007

LIBERAL JUDAISM’S BIENNIAL WEEKEND 4-6 APRIL 2008

This year’s biennial theme “Creation and Creativity” will allow us to explore both the arts and the sciences as Liberal Jews.

A range of exciting workshops is planned to cover both the arts and the sciences, so whether you are interested in one or the other or both, there will be plenty for you. Some workshops will be “how to” sessions, while others will explore current issues. You will have a chance to tap into your own creativity as well as to consider the relationship between art and Judaism with workshops on making holy music, making midrash, writing poetry, and using art to explore our spiritual lives. You will also have the opportunity to consider the role of science in the world today. Science-themed workshops are planned to include end of life issues, medical treatments in the context of Talmudic discourse, the tension between ethics and efficiency in food production and many more.

Music, poetry and art are already well represented in our scheduled workshops, but if you are planning to attend the Biennial and have a particular interest in an aspect of science and would like to suggest a workshop theme or even offer to lead one, please let us know. Esther Aronsfeld would be pleased to hear from you. You can contact her by e-mail at ejarons@beeb.net.
