COUNCIL

NOTICE
Members and Friends of PJC are welcome to attend PJC Council meetings in an "observer" capacity. If you would like to do so then please have a word with any Council officer before the date of the particular meeting. Very occasionally Council will want to take an item "below the line", in which case you would be asked to absent yourself for the duration of that item.

Meeting:

  • The PJCEA Council met on December 4th, at the home of Miriam Barnett

Matters Arising:

- Ideas Day Review
- Skills Audit
- 2008 Dates
- Rabbi Annual Review
- Marriage Secretary

Services:

  • Closing Up the OMH
  • Month-end Services: No service on December 28th. (Rachel not coming up for December 28/29).
  • Next month-end service: Saturday, January 26th at 11.15 am at the OMH.

Education:

  • Children's Film Show in conjunction with the NHC cheder: in hand
  • Re the Schools Box: It had been agreed to purchase a school box for the PJC for loan to whomsoever needs it.
  • Mid-month Cheder: Saturday, December 15th 9.30 am in the Peill Room. Byron reported that he and Annie were to take the mid-month sessions jointly. The sessions were to be extended by half an hour ie 9.30-11. There was a need to maintain some continuity between mid-month and month-end sessions.
  • Month-end cheder on Saturday, December 29th cancelled. (Rachel not coming up for December 28/29)
  • Mid-month Hebrew: Saturday, January 12th at 9.30 am in the OMH Vestry.
  • Month-end Hebrew on December 29th cancelled (Rachel not coming up for December 28/29 weekend)
  • EWJ on December 29th cancelled (Rachel not coming up for Decem-ber 28/29 weekend)

Membership:

  • The Membership Secretary's report was received
  • Contact Group: Inaugural meeting in hand

Treasurer:

  • The Hon Treasurer's report was received
  • Community tanakhs, congregational copies now in the OMH

Social/Events:

  • Re the PJC Party held on Saturday, November 10th: This was deemed to be a great success. Council thanked Deborah and Nick for all their efforts
  • Joan Goodman Lecture: Wednesday, December 5th at 7.30 pm at the Norwich Synagogue. Simon Goldhill: Jerusalem and the Cotswolds – why does Jerusalem look the way it does?
  • NHC Hanukkah Party Sunday, December 9th 4.00 pm at the Earlham Road Synagogue, to include a "high tea". Entrance £5 per adult. Children free.
  • Jewish Book Club was to take place on Tuesday January 15th at 7.30 pm at the home of Maureen and Barry Leveton (The book: Kalooki Nights by Howard Jacobson)
  • The following other events were noted:

Council Statement of Purpose
To work together in a spirit of co-operation and friendship to serve the membership of the PJCEA by:
Dealing with the day to day running of the organisation
Formulating policy and considering and implementing strategic plans for short, medium and long-term development, taking into account the views of all members of the congregation
Putting in place a system for looking after the pastoral needs of members of the congregation
Promoting the congregation in such a way as to encourage people to join and to enhance its standing in the wider community
with a view to enhancing the lives, both Jewish and secular, of all members of the congregation.
