NEWSLETTER JANUARY 2008

Why we're hoping for a great year in 2008

So what New Year's Resolutions were made at midnight – and
just how long will they last?
ROWAN MANTELL asks some of Norwich's leading citizens and
some much less frequently heard voices

Norwich Evening News, January 1st, 2008:
Byron Simmonds, Chairman of the Progressive Hewish Community of East Anglia.
What is your New Year's Resolution?  Lucky me, I get to celebrate not one but two new years: Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year, which takes place around September, and January 1st which is of course for everyone. So, two lots of resolutions and more often than not, two sets of broken promises. A new Year's resolution? To get out more.
Why? In the internet age interpersonal relations can all too easily get reduced to e-mail exchanges, a poor substitute for the real thing.
How long do I expect to be able to keep it? I am optimistic. A new interfaith dialogue project with which I am involved is beginning to take shape. Through this I hope to meet many new and interesting people.
What am I looking forward to in 2008? For both Israelis and Palestinians to come to their senses and create the conditions for real peace in the Middle East.
