CONDOLENCES

Sincere condolences to Leona Levine on the death of her brother Desmond who sadly passed away on Wednesday, April 23rd. The funeral will take place in the Jewish Chapel, Norwich City Cemetery on Bowthorpe Road on Thursday, May 1st at 2:30 pm. Alex Bennett officiating. z"l – may his memory be an abiding blessing.


FOND FAREWELLS

Jeanne and Ray Fletcher return to the United States at the beginning of June. We wish them all the very best in their new life.

Jeanne writes: I will be sad to leave PJCEA. I realise that I haven't been the most active of members but was looking forward to participating in the Contact Group. You have all been so welcoming and I am very grateful for that. I wish the Congregation well in all its endeavours and hope you achieve all you set out to. I will remember OMH fondly and there is an open invitation to any who wish to visit the lovely but COLD state of Maine.

MID-MONTH COMMUNITY-LEAD SERVICE AT THE HOME OF OLIVER FRANKL

The Shabbat service to be held on Friday, May 16th 7:30 pm is to be a community-lead service, the first of such services to be held this year.

For those unfamiliar with the Meeting Room at Oliver's, you should know that it will provide the perfect setting for what should be a spiritual, an educational and a fun occasion. Children welcome.

JEWISH BOOK CLUB

The next meeting of the book club will be on Tuesday, June 10th 7:30 pm at the home of Phyll and Ed Mendelsohn. The book: The Mandelbaum Gate by Muriel Spark

The Jewish Book Club is open to members and friends of both the PJC and the NHC, as well as to Jews who are members of neither congregation. JEWISH NORWICH WALKABOUT

Sunday, July 6th, 2008 10:30 am. Meet at the Earlham Road Synagogue. £5.00 per person, children free. Proceeds to Magen David Adom.

Maureen and Barry Leveton of the Norwich Hebrew Congregation have kindly offered to lead a walking tour of Jewish Norwich. The walk is intended to be child-friendly (not too young), will last about 1½ hours and will conclude with an opportunity to have a "cup of tea and a sandwich" (not included in the price of the walk).

In February 2008 a number of books deemed to be of interest to parents, children and the cheder were withdrawn from the main library listing. They are to browse and borrow from the cheder.

COMMUNITY CONTACT GROUP

The Contact Group exists to help members of our community feel a part of our community. It will do this by contacting members who you feel may benefit from a card, phone call, or perhaps a visit. Let a member of the group know if someone is unwell, isolated, or facing difficult times. We may also be able to arrange a lift for someone who would like to attend services and other communal activities. Our aim is to support members and keep them connected to PJC

OPENING AND CLOSING THE ARK — A GUIDE (REVISED MARCH 2008)

If would you like to know how to open and close the Ark à la PJC, you can now get an A5 booklet of the Torah sequence in Siddur Lev Chadash, complete with "how to" commentary. NORFOLK JEWISH PEACE GROUP

The Norfolk Jewish Peace Group meets regularly to share information and support projects that promote peace in the Middle East. It is primarily concerned with human rights and international law insofar as these impact upon the situation in Israel-Palestine, and is particularly keen to foster links between Jews and Muslims in the local community.
