JUNE 2008 ITS A MITZVAH!
Pensthorpe Waterfowl Park and
Nature Reserve
Pensthorpe Waterfowl Park and Nature Reserve is 500 acres of ancient fen meadows, woodlands and lakes, as well as the waterfowl park. It's a beautiful place, in fact one of the most beautiful and important natural places in the county. There are lots of interesting things to see cranes, swans, red squirrels, lovely gardens, many places to walk and you can even feed the birds. The Jordans, who own it, need all the help they can get with wildlife conservation maintaining Pensthorpe as a wonderful place for learning and walking. It's well accessible to disabled people. There's always work to do. The help needed this summer is treating the wading birds' hide, painting bridges and treating corridors of the cranes' enclosure. We'll have the priviledge of being there closer to nature. We should have lots of fun doing as much as we can. Anything will be gratefully received. Wear suitable clothing. We'll meet there (at the main entrance) at 10.00 am. We'll work for a couple of hours. We'll eat and shmooze in the restaurant. Then anyone who wants to can have a walk around. SARAH BOOSEY REALLY DOES NEED TO KNOW NUMBERS SO PLEASE LET HER KNOW IF YOU PLAN TO JOIN US. THERE MAY ALSO BE OPPORTUNITIES FOR CAR-SHARING. TELEPHONE SARAH OR EMAIL ed_sarah@lycos.co.uk. This is intended to be a child-friendly event. It should be a great and useful day. Sarah Boosey
Sarah and Eddie Boosey help to run a local conservation group: the Norfolk Conservation Corps. They have lots of experience and knowledge about health and safety issues, so there is no worry on that score. The day is being billed as a Norfolk Conservation Corps task, to provide public and personal liability. They will bring a first aid kit. Sarah assures me that there is nothing to worry about. Individuals do not have to be strong or skilled and, when working, can go at their own pace and strength. They will do a safety talk at the beginning of the day and be safety conscious throughout the session. Take a look at www.norfolkconservationcorps.org |
