Professor Peter Simon Liss FRS

Professor of Environmental Sciences, School of Environmental Sciences, University of East Anglia

Peter Liss has made seminal contributions to the study of gas and particle transfer between atmosphere and oceans. His fundamental work on the gas exchange process gave us a unified treatment for a wide range of important atmospheric constituents, and an influential synthesis of air-sea gas transfer. He was a pioneer in the field of global biogeochemical cycles, contributing to knowledge of cycles of silicon, halogens, sulphur and selenium. He is an active national and international leader of his fellow scientists (for instance a member of the Royal Commission on Environmental Pollution) and one of the most prominent biogeochemists in the world. MITZVAH DAY AT PENSTHORPE WATERFOWL PARK AND NATURE RESERVE
SATURDAY, JUNE 14TH
MEET AT 10:00 AM AT THE MAIN ENTRANCE

Pensthorpe Waterfowl Park and Nature Reserve is 500 acres of ancient fen meadows, woodlands and lakes, as well as the waterfowl park. It's a beautiful place, in fact one of the most beautiful and important natural places in the county. There are lots of interesting things to see – cranes, swans, red squirrels, lovely gardens, many places to walk and you can even feed the birds. The Jordans, who own it, need all the help they can get with wildlife conservation maintaining Pensthorpe as a wonderful place for learning and walking. It's well accessible to disabled people.

There's always work to do. The help needed this summer is treating the wading birds' hide, painting bridges and treating corridors of the cranes' enclosure. We'll have the priviledge of being there – closer to nature. We should have lots of fun doing as much as we can. Anything will be gratefully received. Wear suitable clothing.

We'll meet there (at the main entrance) at 10.00am. We'll work for a couple of hours. We'll eat and shmooze in the restaurant. Then anyone who wants to can have a walk around.

SARAH BOOSEY REALLY DOES NEED TO KNOW NUMBERS SO PLEASE LET HER KNOW IF YOU PLAN TO JOIN US. THERE MAY ALSO BE OPPORTUNITIES FOR CAR-SHARING. TELEPHONE SARAH OR EMAIL ed_sarah@lycos.co.uk.

This is intended to be a child-friendly event. It should be a great and useful day.
