NEWSLETTER JULY 2008 END-OF-MONTH SHABBAT SERVICE SATURDAY JULY 26TH The Shabbat service to be held on Saturday, July 26th is to be taken by Rabbi Rachel Benjamin. Rachel Benjamin writes: We will be reading from service number three, on page 117 of Siddur Lev Chadash. The Torah portion is Mattot, Numbers 30:2-32:42, and we shall be reading Numbers 32:1-19. Our Haftarah reading will be Jeremiah 1:1-2:3. Rosh Chodesh Av (the beginning of the Hebrew month of Av) will take place the following Shabbat, so we will say the blessing for the new month at our Shabbat service. After the service there will be a kiddush, with coffee, tea and cakes to follow. Yahrzeits in July
Yahrzeits we know about are read out at the service. It is also fitting to perform a mitzvah eg candle lighting or ark opening at that time. Mitzvot are arranged by Deborah Carpenter, but dont wait for her to contact you. Email deborah.lang@btopenworld.com or just come along to the service Michele Paton maintains the Yahrzeit List. If you would like a family member or friend mentioned in shul on the anniversary of their passing, give Michele the necessasry details ie name, relationship, anniversary date, in writing.
