LIBERAL
JUDAISM DISABILITY MISSION STATEMENT
The Liberal Judaism Disability Action Group is a group of
disabled and non-disabled people. It is committed to
- Social justice within the Jewish Community. We believe that
disabled people have a right to take part fully in the religious and social life of the
community in an independent, inclusive and equal way.
- Working towards all synagogues being accessible by 2004,
having a disability representative in every synagogue, raising awareness, changing the
attitudes that lead to discrimination of disabled people and turning thought into action
because that makes things happen.
- The holding of Liberal Judaism events in accessible venues.
- Supporting the work that is going on in synagogues and
groups across the movement on disability issues and access.
- Putting into practice the ethical imperative that disabled
people have a right to participate fully in the religious and social life of the
community. We do this not only as an expression of Jewish values and universal human
rights but also in the knowledge that everyones lives are enriched when we make our
communities inclusive.
